The development objective of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project for Nigeria is to increase the implementation of sustainable landscape management practices in targeted watersheds in northern Nigeria and strengthen Nigeria’s long-term enabling environment for integrated climate-resilient landscape management. The project comprises of four components. The first component, dryland management will implement integrated watershed management planning and addresses challenges of large-scale watershed degradation in northern Nigeria.

The Second Ethiopia Resilient Landscapes and Livelihoods Project aims to improve climate resilience, land productivity, and carbon storage, and increase access to diversified livelihoods in selected rural watersheds. The project focuses on watershed restoration, climate-smart agriculture, and strengthening institutions and information for better decision-making. It supports sustainable rural development and improved environmental resilience in Ethiopia.

The Regional Sahel Pastoralism Support Project II aims to improve the resilience of pastoralists and agro-pastoralists in the Sahel region. The project promotes sustainable landscape management, including the rehabilitation of ponds and riverbanks, to support water resource sustainability and enhance livelihoods in targeted areas.

The Northern Congo Agroforestry Project aims to strengthen climate-smart agriculture and conservation practices in Community Development Zones in the departments of Sangha and Likouala. The project includes activities to establish tree nurseries, provide seedlings, and promote sustainable forest resource management and agroforestry practices to enhance resilience and biodiversity conservation.

The Niger Integrated Water Security Platform Project aims to strengthen water resources management, increase access to water services, and improve resilience to climate-induced water variability in select areas of Niger. The project supports watershed restoration activities, including reforestation, land restoration, and agroforestry, while also expanding rural water supply, sanitation, and public sanitation infrastructure. Key components focus on integrated investments, institutional capacity building, and enabling flexible disaster response mechanisms.

The Niger Community Action Project for Climate Resilience aims to improve the resilience of populations and production systems to climate change in targeted Communes. The project focuses on mainstreaming climate resilience into development strategies, integrating resilience practices into agro-sylvo-pastoral systems, and ensuring effective coordination and monitoring of project activities. These interventions aim to enhance adaptation to climate variability and protect vulnerable communities.

The Natural Resources Management in a Changing Climate Project aims to expand the adoption of sustainable land and water management practices in Mali. Key components include scaling up sustainable land management to improve biodiversity and reverse deforestation, diversifying local livelihoods to enhance resilience, and building capacity for governance and communication. The project promotes a landscape approach to protect ecosystems and their services while addressing climate change challenges.

The Moldova Agriculture Competitiveness Project aims to enhance the competitiveness of the agro-food sector by modernizing the food safety management system, facilitating market access for farmers, and mainstreaming sustainable land management practices. The project focuses on enhancing land productivity through soil conservation and rehabilitation of anti-erosion shelterbelts to promote agro-environmental sustainability.

The Mauritania Sustainable Landscape Management Project aims to strengthen sustainable landscape management in productive ecosystems. Key interventions include vegetation enrichment, construction of stone bunds, and zai pits to enhance soil productivity and reduce land degradation, contributing to ecosystem resilience.

The Malawi Resilience and Disaster Risk Management Project aims to strengthen disaster risk management (DRM) systems, build resilience among vulnerable communities, and support disaster preparedness and recovery efforts. Key components include resilient infrastructure, risk reduction initiatives, and capacity building to enhance disaster response effectiveness.
