The development objective of the Espírito Santo Water Security Management Project for Brazil is to: (i) to strengthen the Borrower’s capacity to manage water security risks in a changing climate; (ii) to reduce those risks in selected areas of the Borrower’s territory; and (iii) in case of an eligible crisis or emergency, respond promptly and effectively to it. The project comprises of five components. The project will implement NBS to reduce water security risks in selected river basins and support integrated flood risk management.

The objectives of the Amazon Sustainable Landscapes Project are to expand the area under legal protection and improve management of Protected Areas, and increase the area under restoration and sustainable management in the Brazilian Amazon. There are four components to the project, the first component being amazon protected areas system. This component aims to expand and consolidate an over-60-million-ha PA system in the Brazilian Amazon and advance ongoing efforts to secure its long-term financial sustainability by capitalizing the ARPA Transition Fund.

The development objective of the Gazetted Forests Management Project for Benin is to improve the integrated management of targeted Gazetted Forests, to increase access of the main consumption cities to fuelwood produced sustainably, and to strengthen selected non-timber forest product value chains for forest-dependent communities. Combined, the engineered and nature-based measures (mangroves) have protected 1.37 kilometers of coastline (above the baseline) for a total of 1.87 kilometers28, exceeding both the revised PDO-level target of 1.2 kilometers and the original target of 1.6 kilometers. Community-based mangrove management plans have been prepared and adopted under the village development committees and are being implemented to ensure the sustainability of the coastal protection measures on the outer islands. Mangrove as NBS also noted as protecting water suplies from saltwater instrusion.

The project was comprehensive, using insitutional capacity building and awareness raising of SLM for DRM, using community-based activities to restore and sustainably manage areas such as the restoration of natural waterways, reforestation of hillsides and watersheds and bush fire control (Savanna, Maritime and Kara regions). Community-Based activities in Cropland and Grazing Land included SLM best practices will be piloted and promoted in targeted areas.
