The Government of Senegal, in coordination with sector ministries and municipalities, implemented this project to improve stormwater drainage and flood prevention in peri-urban Dakar. The project consists of three main topical components, ranging from flood risk mainstreaming in the urban sector, drainage investment and management, to community engagement in urban flood-risk reduction and adaptation to climate change. The program and the national strategy to be developed here will include both structural and non-structural measures.

The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania has requested funding for this project to improve urban services and institutional capacity in the Dar es Salaam Metropolitan Area. Dar es Salaam, as engine of growth for the nation, suffers from a backlog in infrastructure investments with growth outpacing infrastructure development; poor connectivity; the mushrooming of un-serviced informal settlements; sprawling energy intensive settlement patterns and capacity and governance constraints. Many parts of the city are also prone to surface and river flooding.
