The objective of this pilot-scale project is to 1) to strengthen the institutional capacity of the Ministry of Housing and Environment and local councils in planning and demonstration of community based wetland management, and 2) to implement a coral reef monitoring system. The Government of the Maldives will achieve this through the components Wetland Conservation and Water Resources Management, Coral Reef Monitoring and supporting project management, financed under the multi-donor Climate Change Trust Fund.

The objective of the project implemented by the Government of Morocco is to pilot the application of an integrated coastal zone management (ICZM) approach on its eastern Mediterranean coast. ICZM implemented at local level by all users of the coastal resources will leverage rural pollution reduction and protection of biodiversity and ecologically sensitive areas. The project used non-structural and structural interventions, such as training on ecosystem-based co-management, wetlands and dune restoration, and the creation of an artificial reef.
