The development objective of the Flood Management Project for Ethiopia is to strengthen Ethiopia’s institutional capacity for disaster risk management (DRM), and flood risk management in selected basins. The project comprises of four components. The first component, strengthening institutional and coordination capacity for disaster risk management aims to improve the Government of Ethiopia (GoE) DRM by strengthening the institutional capacity of federal-level agencies (including priority sectors) and the coordination between federal and decentralized levels of the government.

It focuses on regional integration by harmonizing coastal governance policies and strengthening institutional collaboration to address resilience challenges. At the national level, the project supports operationalizing integrated coastal zone management plans and land-use strategies for effective management of transboundary ecosystems.

It invests in urban, peri-urban, and rural water supply systems, coupled with water quality management and integrated watershed measures to reduce climate-related hazards. The project also enables contingency responses to disasters, ensuring resilience in service delivery.
