The proposed Project has drawn on international best practices such as “working with nature”. The Project objectives will be achieved in a way that prioritizes the natural ecosystem, thereby making solutions non-damaging and sustainable (e.g., limit dredging, utilize portable / modular infrastructure design adaptation for landing stations to address the issue of bank erosion and enhance climate resiliency, and low draft vessel designs) and is compatible with floodplain management (e.g., nature-based solutions, active or passive recreation, waterfront revitalization, establishment of greenways, and nature study areas). IWT investments will offer opportunities for ecotourism development, rejuvenate the riverfront and integrate quality ferry terminals in KMA’s transportation network.
