The development objective of the Forest Sector Modernization and Coastal Resilience Enhancement Project for Vietnam was to improve coastal forest management in the Project Provinces. The project had three technical components in addition to a fourth component on project management, monitoring, and evaluation. The first component modernized the technical know how and approaches used for planning, supplying seedlings, and financing coastal protection forest management and planting. The second component adopted a holistic approach that links the biophysical, physical, and management interventions for managing and planting mangroves and sandy soil forests. The third component focused on augmenting the economic benefits derived from well-protected coastal forests, with the aim of reducing pressure to convert these natural systems. The project restored 4,041 ha of coastal forests to reduce coastal risks, and provided livelihood opportunities.
